Quoting the Quotable Quotes

To write, you kind of have to be in the mood. And let me tell ya, I'm not anywhere near the mood right now. So for today, here are words of wisdom from other people!

This last one is probably my favorite one! It can apply to anything. Trials, mission, marraige, having children. It will be worth it.

I Don't See the Whole Staircase

With my current situation, it's difficult to "plan out" too far ahead. For example, where am I going to be in a year from now? Getting ready for school again? Being an EFY counselor? In the mission field or about to be in the mission field?

And sometimes I start to worry. I worry about what will happen, what I won't be able to do, or what comes next in years to come.

How do I lower my fear? One word. Faith.

"Just as darkness is the absence of light, fear is the absence of faith.
It is said that even if your faith is as small as a mustard seed,
nothing will be impossible for you."

What do I have faith in? I have faith that no matter what happens, God is watching out for me. I know that He loves me and won't give me a trial I can't handle. I know that anything I could want out of life is not as good as what God has planned for me. And by choosing to follow that plan, in faith, is like this quote...

"Faith is taking the first step even when you don't
see the whole staircase." Martin Luther King, Jr.

Like I said before, I don't know where I'll be in a year. I don't see the whole staircase. But I know that I'm heading the right direction if I choose to follow God's plan for me and I am climbing up, step by step. If you have a patriarchal blessing, pull it out and read it sometime! If you don't have one, think about when you want to get it. It has really blessed my life and given me comfort because of the things which are promised to me in that blessing if I live righteously. For those of you that don't know what a patriarchal blessing is, you can read about it here.

"And now as I said concerning faith- faith is not to have a perfect knowledge of things. Therefore if ye have faith, ye hope for things which are not seen, which are true." Alma 32:21

I do not have a perfect knowledge of what my plan in this life is. But I have hope in Christ that it's anything better than I could imagine! I have faith in the gospel, and that the only way back to our Heavenly Father again is through the atonement of Jesus Christ, through faith in Him, and living the gospel.

A Tribute to Mom

There was only one perfect person to ever walk this earth, and that's Jesus Christ.

Someone who comes pretty close is my mother. As to yesterday being Mother's Day, this post is dedicated to her!

My mom has raised me from a pup, always been at my side, and is the best mother/wife/grandmother/daughter/aunt/neighbor/visiting teacher around! Quite a few titles, huh?

One thing that really stands out is the last few years. With cancer treatments, she always went with me. She went to every doctor's check up and was there during every surgery.

During "round one," while having radiation treatments, it made my throat hurt real bad. All I could get down were Carnation Instant Breakfast drink mixes. We'd always walk Cake Boss around 10 pm and she'd help me and coach me as I'd take one sip of Carnation, a sip of water, then wait a minute, and do it again.

It must take a LOT of work to be a mother. But it also must be extremely worth it. She does a lot for everyone else, at home and at church and is extremely selfless. I am so impressed at all that my mom does. She is definitely one of my heroes.

Thank you mom, and mother's everywhere, for all you do. You truly keep the world running!

Live The Gospel

Over the last month I have really gone crazy with my Book of Mormon reading. No, it's not even close to a bad thing. I have felt so much closer to my Savior, and I really do feel like I have gained substantial amounts of knowledge from that book. Man, it's amazing.

I can honestly tell you that I have never read a more true book. Ever. And I can tell you that I believe in its words and that it comes from God. I love the Book of Mormon, and I truly do love reading it. It has brought me indescribable joy! I'm not just saying that, I mean it. It's made my life improve tremendously. If you haven't read it yet, PLEASE do. If you read it with an open heart and really read it, you'll see the change in yourself. If you want a copy and don't know where to get one, let me know.

Do you know what I've noticed? In mostly every story, the reason why the Nephites, Jaredites, Anti-Nephi-Lehis, and yes, even the Lamanites are blessed and "prosper in the land" is because of one thing.
"I am aware that life presents many challenges, but with the help of the Lord,
we need not fear. If our lives and our faith are centered on Jesus Christ
and his restored gospel, nothing can ever go permanently wrong."
-Howard W Hunter

They live the gospel.

A few examples:
1 Nephi 2:1 "...Blessed art thou Lehi, because of the things which thou hast done."
1 Nephi 8:12 "And as I partook of the fruit thereof it filled my soul with exceedingly great joy."
Jarom 1:9 "...Inasmuch as ye will keep my commandments ye shall prosper in the land."
Mosiah 2:31 "...if ye shall keep the commandments... ye shall prosper in the land, and your enemies shall have no power over you."
Alma 32:15 "Yea, he that truly humbleth himself, and repenteth of his sins, and endureth to the end, the same shall be blessed..."

That's just from the first half. And I just found those scriptures by flipping through pages. Not digging and searching. It's repeated time and time again that the Lord blesses his people who live the gospel. It's amazing, isn't it?

Also, remember that living the gospel doesn't mean that you are perfect. The only perfect person on the Earth was Jesus Christ! I'm nowhere near perfect, but really glad that as long as I do my best to live His gospel and keep his teachings in my heart, I'm blessed for my efforts.

Last fall, I realized that although my life was great, but not where I wanted to be, and my testimony was not where I wanted it to be. I changed some habits, read the scriptures more, prayed more, and decided to live closer to the Savior. And I stand here as your witness today that living the gospel WILL improve your life. Tremendously. Because I focus on Jesus Christ, his atoning sacrifice, and his gospel, life is so so SO much better. It improves my attitude and my relationships. It gives me more reason to smile. I cannot even think of where my life would be and how I would handle being a teenager with cancer with the Lord in my life. Every day.

Live the gospel, really live it. Strive to become closer to our Savior through prayer, scripture study, and those quiet moments of thought, and you will not regret it. I promise.

Until next week, keep running.
